Welcome to JOETSU !

Joetsu city is located in the Southwest of Niigata Prefecture bordering the Sea of Japan. Joetsu is bordered to the north with Kashiwazaki city, to the south with Myoko city and Nagano Prefecture's Iiyama city, to the east with Tokamachi city, and is adjoined by Itoigawa city to the west.

As of January 1st of 2005, 14 Municipalities—the former Joetsu City and and the smaller surrounding municipalities of Yasuzuka, Uragawara, Oshima, Maki, Kakizaki, Ogata, Kubiki, Yoshikawa, Nakago, Itakura, Kiyosato, Sanwa, and Nadachi merged together to give birth to a new city with a population of over 210,000 people.
